The 8th grade had their annual retreat on Thursday, May 9th. It consisted of Mass in San Marcos, a stop over at Our Lady of the Rosary in Little Italy and then feeding the poor at Fr. Joe's Village in San Diego. It was a great experience for the students and they did a fantastic job. They did everything from plating food to bringing it out to those who could not walk. Every year our 8th grade religion class participates in the Serra Diocesan 8th grade essay contest with other 8th grade students from Catholic schools throughout the Diocese. The essay prompt for this year was: In Leviticus 19:2, God says "Be holy, for I, your God, am holy." What does this mean to you as you consider what God may be calling for you to do?

The judges from the Serra Club choose the top two essays from each 8th grade class participating and also choose the top 10 student essays among all essays entered in the contest. For the third year in a row, one of our students was selected in the top ten. Congratulations to Hannah Stehly! To put into perspective, along with nine other students, she was chosen from probably among ~500 to 1,000 total essays entered.

Way to go Hannah!! This is a tremendous honor for Hannah and her family, for our 8th grade class, and for our school.
